Suna West Member of Parliament Hon. Joseph Obiero Ndiege has criticized Migori county government of constructing a sub-standard market for Migori town traders.

Hon. Ndiege said the yet to be completed market is not worth the tax-payers money calling upon the county government to immediately complete the premise to salvage fishmongers and other small business traders who, for a long time, have been operating in a deplorable environment.

Notwithstanding, he slammed the current market structure saying it is far below what should be termed a modern market.

The Suna West lawmaker, who yesterday met various trading stakeholders within Migori town, also wondered why the county government is adamant despite constant calls from traders of market’s poor sanitation.

The legislature further called upon the county government to harmonize rates on levy saying traders are currently charged exorbitantly with some goods being victims of multiple taxation.

Hon. Ndiege’s concerns come barely two months when Migori town fishmongers and their “omena” counterparts forcefully broke into the stalled market to evade heavy rains and scorching sun and since then they have stayed put.
