MPs Robi, Kitayama and Sukari Industries support Agnes Ayacko’s Kambi ya Wasichana

Migori county first lady Agnes Ayacko move to end female genital mutilation in Kuria has kicked off with a positive gesture on Monday.

Agnes launched the four days Kambi ya Wasichana function at Moi Nyabohanse Secondary School with a major boost from local leaders and partners.

Kuria West MP Mathias Robi and his Kuria East counterpart Marwa Kitayama are leaders who have supported the initiative.

Sukari Industries General Manager Tyagi VP Tyagi was among 12 partners who have chosen to support the initiative.

“Apart from our two MPs we as local leaders we are full this gesture to end FGM in Kuria, we are happy that Robi facilitated the brining of gitls here by buses,” Joseph Machumbe, Komosoko Nyamosense MCA said.

Last week during a public function, Robi said he was fully behind the initiative by the first lady.

“When I was approached I helped facilitate support from the ministry of gender where food to be given to girls was donated fully,” Robi said.

Lucy Wairungu who represented Kitayama said the legislator was positive and supported the gesture.

“If we had started this support earlier we could’ve made major strides in ending the vice in Kuria, we are sure in the next decade we will make major strides,” Wairungu said.

Tyagi said for Kenya to be industrialised fully initiatives to ensure all Kenyans get education like ending FGM should be supported.

Agnes Ayacko said the Kambi ya Wasichana will ensure “all children should get positive upbringing.”

She said elders from Kuria, church leaders, local NGOs and gender activists “most are young people who have come out of their way and the need in us,” and first ladies will grace the function.

“We also plan to have elders from Marsabit county which is also affected by FGM to help in sharing information on how to fight the vice,” she said.

The program has brought 200 girls and it will end on Thursday. Everline Boke Maroa from Bukira East village who was among the participants said she appreciate the initiative and said the discipline and lesson learnt will be shared among other girls.
