Migori senator Wilfred Machage has faced the wrath of residents for being an absentee leader who has never organised any political or social event three years after being elected.

Angry youths and civil activists rapped the senator for being an absentee leader who benfitted from infamous Luo-Kuria negotiated democracy.

He was accused of being absent and never taking any step to tame the runaway corruption by the county government.

During a forum that brought together youths, civil activists and media in a Migori town hotel, the crowd numbering 100s said Machage has bever been seen in any party or social functions since elected.

“Machage has absolutely done nothing to be pointed out in the county, he was lucky to be elected when the orange forced him on us and he has taken that for granted,” said Joseph Nyapete, a youth leader from Kakrao Ward.

He added: “We have never seen him hold any public gathering to show citizens of his oversight role and is part and parcel of mess we have seen in county government though his loud silence.”

George Webster, a youth from Oruba-Ragana Ward in Suna West constituency said Machage will never find it easy in 2017 “if he doesn’t come to the ground.”

The two also rubbished a recent poll that placed Machage as second most active senator in debates saying it doesn’t reflect his work on the ground.

“He should borrow a leaf from his Homa Bay counterpart who came late in the scene and has placed his governor on toes,” Webster said.

Rose Okia, secretary at Machage office was jeered by the crowd of about 100 people in the hall when she defended her boss.

“He has been ranked second most popular debater in the senate which shows he articulate our issues as a county at the national level,” Okia said. She later accepted to call her boss later and tell him what the people demanded of him.
