The rising numbers of schools unrests in parts of the the country is worrying Migori County parents.

Parents who spoke to the press on Thursday regretted that continued riots in schools is not good at the time when they had just reported back after Covid-19 unplanned long break.

They said they had struggled to take back their children to school after Corona Virus had ruined their varied sources of income last year.

Frustrated parents said they were not ready to pay again for damages caused by their children in school at the time they are finding it difficult to provide food and needs for their families at home.

Ochiengi Nyafanga a parent from Osungo village said that children come from different backgrounds when in school they influence each other in negative ways.

He also added that parents need to raise their children in the ways accepted by the societies especially moral teachings advocated by religious organisations.

Nyafanga warned parents against supporting children when they do a mistake in school instead they should take that opportunity to talk to their children and correct them.

But according to Samuel Orwa the Executive Secretary KUPPET, teachers feels parents have played a major role in students engaging in criminal activities according to law.

Orwa said parents have neglected their roles and left all the responsibility of raising their children to teachers.

According to Orwa, parents should step in and perform their roles of speaking to their children and be good role models to them.

He asked the government to bring in professional counselors to come and lend a hand to teachers in guiding and counseling the students.

Teachers are applauding the efforts of the directorate of criminal investigations and are asking students to take that as a warning from the government.

Caleb Opondi the Executive Secretary Kenya National Union of Teachers Migory County said that the on-going unrest in schools is due to the long breaks from class.

Most students had engaged in many activities that gave them money hence going back to class makes them feel suffocated and a waste of their time.

Opondi called on the government to educate the students on the value of education and the need not to destroy properties as they please.
