Migori launches Sh120m bursaries, partial scholarship targetting 18,624 learners

Migori county government has rolled out Sh120million bursaries to learners across all 40 wards.

Governor Ochillo Ayacko while addressing the press in Migori town town said the amount will cover for bursary and partial scholarship.

“Today we have launched the exercise which will go across all wards and we are right on schedule before schools re-open,” Ayacko said.

He said for second year running since being elected he has supported young people to pursue their education dreams.

Out of the amount, secondary and other tertiary institutions will get Sh81.4m for 16,296 students with each student given Sh5,000.

For vocational training centers and universities a total of 2,238 learners will benefit from Sh38m with each getting from Sh5-15k.

A total of 18,624 students will benefit.

Out of the total amount, operations and logistics will be allocated Sh3.6m andna total of Sh116.4m paid to learners.

“We have seen delays caused hugely on delays from exchequer to release funds, this has not only affected bursaries but also other essential services like salaries and medical,” he said.

Migori received their funds for January only a day before Good Friday.

“But we have managed to issue bursaries which captured both genders with special attending to PWDs in an all inclusive exercise across all polling stations,” he added.

He said the amount will also cover those continuing under the governor’s scholarship.
