Migori county is facing a looming Cholera outbreak as striking county workers lock down revenue and garbage collection.

As the strike enters one week, a section of Migori residents joined the strike totally paralyze revenue collection
in the county.

The workers are demanding the county government to pay them kshs.134 million in arrears, improve their working conditions and absorb those who have been working as casuals for more than 5 years.

According to the Migori council workers secretary Mr. Baraza Nguka, the strike shall go on until the county government meets their demands, which he said are long overdue.

Mr. Nguka said that they have made efforts to pitch dialogue with the governor to solve their issues but their request have been falling on deaf ears.

He added that their loans and other insurance deductions are not being remitted to the relevant authorities and this has denied them opportunities to access even hospital and bank services.

Speaking at the same function, was the national secretary of workers union Mr. Simba Ododa who said that they will push the county government to give the workers their rights.

At the same time, the residents have also vowed stop paying revenue to the county government until the demand so the county workers are met.

The irate workers who chanted anti county govt slogans aired their grievances in reaction to a statement by the county governor Okoth Obado who had issued a return to work ultimatum by today(Tuesday) 8am failure to which they would lose their jobs.

Mr. Ondijo Fredrick, a resident of Migori said that they will do so a way of solidarity.

The ongoing strike has paralyzed operations at the county government with the main town center littered with garbage.
