Migori county govt staff locked out of office over 10 months rent arrears

Environment and disaster management in Migori County are paralyzed after a surprised notice at the entrance warning users not to access the building until rent is cleared.

Workers and clients since the beginning of this week walked in to report on duty and to acquire services respectively only to find the notice warning them to temporarily vacate the premise owned by Kenya Red Cross organization.

According to some of the staffs seeking anonymity explained that they have been reporting to the office and going back home almost immediately since they cannot access any document.

Tens of clients were equally turned down as the available staffs were helpless and only concentrating on their phones while some in groups of two or three were murmuring what was believed to be what befell them.

When contacted, chief officer in the ministry Environment and disaster management Mr. Joshua Ngwalla confirmed that there is a problem concerning the delayed rent but are soon sorting it out.

He said there has been no money because of failed system urging staffs to bear with the situation.

On her side, Migori County Kenya Red Cross Project Coordinator Mrs. Jane Adhiambo Ooro said they closed the office after issuing three letters asking them to pay the ten month’s due in vain.
