Migori children governor Ogolla elected, four to represent county nationally

Migori county children assembly has elected Vincent Barrack Ogolla as their governor in elections carried out at Girango Hotel, Migori town this evening.

During the peaceful elections, Ephie Moraa was elected deputy governor while Stephen Ochieng’ is the new speaker with Ashley Rosetty as the deputy.

Collete Wagesa will be the clerk while Elphas Ombima will be the Sergent-At-Arms.

The assembly as also picked four children, two boys and two girls, to represent the county in the national children assembly slotted for 24-29 this month.

The four are: Beryl Jill representing people with disability (Nyatike sub-county) and Ferdinard Mangeteni from Kuria West.

The Governor and his deputy speaker will also help debate this year Kenya Children Assembly theme of “end violence against children, safe society for children”

They were chosen when the Migori county children assembly had their special annual sitting at Girango Hotel within Migori town on Thursday and Friday.

During the meetings it emerged that child labour was the main problem affecting children in the county.

Migori county children officer John Odinya who presided over the meeting said stakeholders should help build more similar forums to help boost children rights.

Migori Chief Magistrate David Kimei said legislators in national assembly should be role models to children assemblies terming the recent incident where a section of opposition legislators blew whistles during President Uhuru Kenyatta state of the nation as a big shame.

The two urged children elected in the Migori assembly to be role models and ensure they perform well in their examinations.
