Masked gunmen raid Gango stores in Awendo town, steal Sh1.8m fatally shooting two

Awendo town residents are living in insecurity fears after masked gun mean stole Sh1.8million from a shop and shot two people fatally in brazen attack.

The robbery which happened just before 8pm saw six men wearing masks invade Gango Stores owned by popular town businessman Raphael Onyando Onyango.

Police said the gang were armed with an assault rifle, two pistols and machetes and after walking inside the store they ordered everybody to lie down on the floor.

“They seemed to have known where the money was because for thirty minutes they ransacked the shop and asked where more money was kept,” a witness said.

A police report seen by Migori News showed that they asked Onyando’s wife Dolly and daughter Beldine to show them where the money was kept.

“They later dismantled the CCTV and picked the drive with it,” the witness added.

While they were leaving the two ladies and workers started shouting at the public to corner them before they starting shooting in the air injuries two people.

In the process two workers at the store, George Onyango Riaga, 26, was shot in the buttocks with the bullet exiting his lower arm.

Nicholas Ochieng Ogoji, 40, was shot through the thigh with the bullet exiting throough lower stomach.

“they are both being attended to at Rapcom Medical Centre, two spent cartridges and one live round of 7.39 mm calibre were recovered at the scene of shooting,” a police report said.

Police have launched investigations about the whereabout of the gang which escaped towards Uriri center.
