Masara ODM win upheld, Ndiege to go independent

Suna West MP Peter Masara ODM primaries win have been upheld by the tribunal.

During the April 18 nominations, Masara won, the win which was challenged by immediate former MP Joseph Joseph Ndiege.

Masara edged Ndiege when he garnered 8,799 votes to clinch the ODM ticket against 8671 votes by a paltry 128 votes.

In his appeal, Ndiege cited voting exercise which was conducted late past the stipulated 5pm voting time, a move that the tribunal dismissed.

Ndiege will now vie as an independent candidate together with immediate former Migori Agriculture executive Valentine Ogongo, who will vie as Independent candidate.

“The appellants did not prove their case beyond reasonable doubt. It is impossible to get a second opinion on the allegations. The actions from the above are that the appeal lacks merit since allowing voters to vote past 5pm did not jeopardize the appellant. The result of the voting is hereby upheld and the appeal is dismissed with no costs,” ruled the tribunal.

The campaigns were marred by violence and fights between supporters of the two leaders.
