Suna West MP Peter Masara on Friday distributed bursaries worth over Sh23million in the first transparent process.

Unlike in the past, Masara started by constituting bursary committees in all polling centers in the constituency where 2,300 needy students were picked with each getting over Sh10,000 cheques.

“During campaigns I promised to have leadership based on openness and transparency away from clanism,” he said.

Masara said unlike in the past when beneficiaries used to get little amount of bursary, this time he has created a boost to ensure continuity in education.

“We have schools which have received over a half a million, which will give heads a chance to have students stay longer in schools without chasing away students,” he said.

At the same time 103 youths, especially out of school will get free driving licences from Suna Driving School courtesy of the NG-CDF kitty.

The team moved in all four wards: Wiga Ward (Masara Primary School), Wasimbete Ward (Piny Oyie Headquarters), Waswetta 2 Ward (Bondo Primary School) and Ragana-Oruba Ward (Migori PEFA Church).

“Sponsored students should pick their cheques which have been deposited with respective schools, they should not pick them from constituency offices,” he said.
