Mark Nyamita steps down from governor race, to vie for Uriri MP

NyamitaBy Eng. Mark Ogolla Nyamita

For the past five years, I’ve traversed all corners of our county interacting with voters and stakeholders in my bid for the Migori County governorship. Together with my dedicated campaign team, volunteers and friends, we rolled out a strong movement to bring change to Migori County.

It was/is my deepest conviction that we can only improve the lives of our people if we’ve a leadership that has the interest of people at heart. This is a belief I hold dearly onto. Nevertheless ladies and gentlemen, the people of Uriri have for a long period been sending delegation after delegation to me with a view to persuade me to reconsider my decision to run for governorship of Migori.

The general feeling in Uriri is that I represent them in the National Assembly. Therefore, after thorough consideration of various views, deep soul-searching and extensive consultations with my campaign team, friends and family, I’ve resolved to shelve my ambition to run for the governorship of Migori and will now vie for Uriri Constituency parliamentary seat in the forthcoming polls. This decision will disappoint a couple of people but I persuade you to look at the bigger picture.

I’m unreservedly grateful to all my supporters from across the county who stood by me against all odds. As to the direction we will go as a pertains County leadership, I’ll give direction in due course. Thank you. I love you all.
