Kuria East MP Marwa Kitayama has launched an onslaught against Migori County Government over what he termed as skewed distribution of resources in the Kuria region.

Kitayama said the Okoth Obado led County government was treating the Kuria region as though it was not part of the County.

The Kuria East MP was speaking in reference to the skipping of the upgrade to municipality of Kehancha and Isebania towns in the Kuria region.

According to Kitayama, after Migori town, it is Kehancha that was to be considered second before any other town in the county.

The legislator said this was because members of the Kuria community are not well represented in development committees leading to the region being excluded in development agenda by the county.

“For instance, if you look at the committee that came up with this municipality thing, we (Kuria)were not represented; no wonder our leaders at the county level have no information about the issue,” Kitayama said.

When he sought answers on why the region was not represented in the World Bank project, the MP said Governor Obado argued that “If I give you Nyatike will also demand to be considered.”

But the MP argued that Governor Obado was being unfair to the Kuria region that he said was responsible for 50% of the County’s revenue.

“Should we just sit back and be discriminated against when the county government collects half of its revenue from our region?” the legislator asked.

He also put the governor to task to show what he had done with the billions of shillings since the inception of devolution.

“As an MP I get 100 million every year and you can see what I have done and will continue to do. I ask you to show me the projects Obado has done here,” he said.

Kitayama however defended the office of Senator Ochillo Ayacko against the World Bank project saying it is Kurians who were fighting for their rights.

“We want to know whether we are deservedly part of Migori or we were invited here as visitors,” Kitayama said.

Richard Solo who represented Senator Ayacko asked the governor to be fair to all regions in the county in issuing development projects.

They were speaking today in Kegonga in Kuria East Constituency.

The two were responding to claims by the governors represent at the funeral CEC Education —- who said Kehancha and Isebania did not qualify for the  World Bank projects because they did not meet the threshold.
