Kuja Primary school for the Deaf in Rongo sub County produced top candidate in last year’s KCPE results among Special schools category.

Gladys Achieng scored 352 marks out of the possible 500 beating even candidates in public primary schools.

She expects to be considered for admission in one the girls national schools where she expect to perform well and pursue competitive that will enable her to fit well in the job market both locally and internationally.

Her parents said they realized their daughter’s academic prowess at tender age and decided to enroll her at Kuja special primary school where she could be handled well by trained special teachers. Achieng inspired to be one the reliable top lecturer upon complexion of her studies

The school’s head teacher Mrs. Jemima Were told the media that that Achieng had demonstrated seriousness in academic and knew she would not let them down.

She encouraged parents living with special needs to enroll them in learning institutions where the challenges could address amicably.

She said such children should be treated as a curse in the a society as they have proved that disability is not inability and therefore need to integrated and provided with fair playing ground to enable them realize their dreams.

“Such children should not be looked down upon and society and the government should develop positive attitude towards them and sufficiently provide relevant facilities to cater for individual needs”, Mrs. Were added.

She further said such children should not be underrated as they have excelled in academic, politics, administration and served in senior positions locally and internationally.

One of the Migori County Assembly nominees Eunice Mboya who is undergoing her degree course on special needs education at the Maseno University also went through the institution due to her hearing impairedness.

Kuja Primary school for the deaf has produced energetic and productive citizens who are now serving the government in various senior positions.
