Kodero Bara celebrates prize giving day

Teachers and parents have been urged to take the bowl responsibility in inculcating moral values among students and children as a means of restoring hopes in them.

This is according to Dr. Bertha Kaimenyi a lecture at Day Star University who said that most of young people have lost directions and engage themselves in activities such as drug abuse, premarital sex, and peer pressure among others which she said must be dealt with at an early stage of their life.

While addressing parents, teachers and students at Koderobara high school during prize giving ceremony, Dr. Kaimenyi maintained that the society must always remain the role models to the young people training them as peers through sensitization and civic education on the risk of such vices which she said was ruining their lives.

Dr. Kaimenyi who is also a campaigner for balanced living said that Talents development in Kenya has been neglected
for quit long despite the extensive talents that Kenyan people have especially the youths.

She said that despite academic qualifications, talents must also be given precedence and identified at an early stage of life in enhancing all rounded citizens for the growth of a flourishing nation.

She maintained that the curriculum and the co-curriculum activities must be given equal weight so that the schools can develop a holistic curriculum factoring talent development in addition to intellectual growth.

She called on the public and all educational stakeholders to help to bring views to factor in the curriculum that is being reformed to be a competence of rounded fields saying that the new curriculum must take the cognizance of culture and talents.

“This country is in dire need of planners, plumbers, land surveyors, building contractors and the many technical jobs. Most of our students only think of the white collar jobs which are rear to come by,” she said.

She challenged the students to identify their areas of interest early enough and utilize every opportunity that will see them fit in such satisfying carriers.

She however urged parents to invest in education alongside talent development as it is the key that will enable learners to interact freely with everyone despite tribe, profession or color saying education is a universal uniting factor in all cadre of life.

She said the only surest route to alleviate poverty in the region and by extension in the entire country was to ensure an opportunity was created for those who still nurture interest and passion for education is given a chance.

She challenged leaders to shun divisive politics and have attitudinal change to ensure economic development.
On his part the school principal Mr. Jean Agutu said being elevated to extra county school in the region, it has attracted learners from every part of the country due to its enormous performance.

According Mr. Agutu the school which has over 1000 is optimistic that the student are geared towards achieving their goals through receiving quality education for adaptability and inculcating life skills which he said would provide employment opportunities to ever increasing demand for engagement in viable economic activities to have a steady source of livelihood.

“This in liaison with all stakeholders we must always work in unity to have a complete person to the service of this dynamic society,” said Agutu.

The school managed to get a mean of 9.01 with 120 out of 189 students getting direct admission to various universities in the country.

Agutu attributed their good performance to dedication of teachers and students and quality bench marking with some of the best performing schools in the country.
