#KCSE2017 Despite being a mixed school, without water Ageng’a from Nyatike floors Rapogi, shines

A little known Ageng’a mixed secondary school in Nyatike sub county of Migori emerged among top 100 in KCSE results recently released by education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi.

The school that presented 113 candidates emerged in top position in physics subject nationally and was also second in Geography subject being handled by the Principal John Okuoro Magero posting a mean score of 8.309 an improvement from last year.

Ageng’a was second in Migori County after Kanga national school and expecting to send 108 students from the school joining public university direct entry next year.

The school situated in remote part of Migori county urgently require a science laboratory to compete favorably with giant schools academically.

It also need additional trained teachers to ensure smooth learning process in all subjects offered to learners to be able to get grades that will enable them fit globally in academic competition.

Ageng’a mixed secondary school usually ofer admission to students with low mark in KCPE and has been able to take to public universities a good number of local students.

The able BOM chairman Kennedy Okong’o has struggled to put up modern dormitories for both boys and girls and now expecting to have adequate clean water supply to the institution to save students from walking distance in search of the commodity.

The school in 2017 KCSE results produced 2 candidates in A-, 16 in B+ with 29,39 and 22 in B plain,B minus and C+ respectively.

The last grade obtained in the school was c plain 5 candidates.

The school has maintained excellent performance in physics for 3 consecutive years and teacher are determined to improve performance next year as students in form three were well prepared.

In physics the school obtained a mean score of 11.072  and 11.66 in Geography to appear in the national map of academic performance and for three years the school has been remained top leading school physics.

The subject is being handled by a 33 year old teacher Fred Otieno.

The institution expects to have 2 students joining medicine courses next year.

The principal commended his teachers for the excellent performance and also hailed the sponsor for support to ensure improved achievement.

Out of 108 students to join public university next year, 34 girls is among the candidates who obtained direct entry grade and will be considered for competitive courses in public universities across the country.

Kodero-Bara and Kameji secondary schools in Rongo sub county also performed well despite the fact that the two schools has been offering admission to students with low marks below 300.

Jim Agutu and Solomon Abayo have been posting good results since took over leadership in the learning institutions and have maintained performance sending students to public universities every year..

Ageng’a surpassed Rapogi boys and is aiming at being best in the regioon.

Kanga Principal Mr Michael Ogweno however said his  institution will remain champion for years to come and urged fellow heads to adopt exchange programs with performing schools within and outside the region
