The Migori County chapter of Kanyawanga Boys High School alumni association was last Friday launched.

The chapter was formed during an informal meeting that brought together close to 20 former students of the school situated in Rongo sub-county.

The group has the oldest former student who joined the school in 1983 before finishing four years later.

During the meeting members elected Maxwell Odondi (2003-2006) and Agri-Business officer with Migori County Government and a businessman as the chairman.

Frank Kokeyo (2006-2010) a trained English-Literature teacher and a businessman as the Secretary.

Victor Owiti (2002-2005) a trained Clinical Officer is the interim Treasurer.

Manuel Odeny (2001-2004), a Communication and Media Graduate working with the Star newspaper in Migori county was elected the alumni Organising-Secretary in interim basis.

“We are happy to get this informal set up to bring us together to champion for unity, networking and pay back to Kanyawanga High School which mentored us,” Odondi told the gathering.

Odeny said the formal group will form the best avenue to network and safeguard members’ interest in seeking business opportunities and support those seeking leadership positions through elective positions.

The meeting was called through by Micah Omondi Otieno (2002-2005) who is a business man vying for Awendo parliamentary seat.

“We need to have a strong network organisation banking on the Migori county chapter to augur with the one we have nationally,” Micah said.

He said most often strong alumni organisations have been used as informal focal points in getting business, employment, education and leadership opportunities which should be replicated by the chapter.

The group will meet again this Friday at a venue to be communicated later to issue the first draft constitution currently being written from minutes of the first meeting.
