Two suspected cattle rustlers lost their lives at hands of angry Isebania town residents after botched attempt to steal a Fresian heifer.

The suspected had stolen the heifer at Bukira West village before the owner raised an alarm which attracted angry villagers.

“They were making away with the heifer when the charging villagers made them leave it as they tried to dash towards Tanzania border, which is about two kilometers away,” Abraham Chacha a resident said.

Meters to the border, the villagers managed to corner them before beating.

“They were beaten for almost an hour before police arrived to rescue them,” he added.

Kuria West police boss Cleti Kimaiyo said when police arrived the two were already badly beaten and were left with deep panga cuts.

They were rushed to Migori County Referral Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries when they were pronounced dead upon arriver.

Their bodies are being preserved at Migori County Referral Hospital’s morgue awaiting post mortem examination.
