Ida Odinga: Nominated women MCA should never expect another nomination

Migori women MCAs who were nominated should go for elective politics in next polls and never expect to be nominated again, Cord leader Raila Odinga’s wife Ida has said.

Ida said those who should be nominated after next polls should be fresh faces and urged the current crop of MCAs to go for elected posts.

“Never expect to be nominated again while we have many other women in the leadership position,” she said.

She challenged all women nominated MCAs in Migori county to go for elective posts in next year’s polls as they are now financially strong.

“It will be a being shame if your are nominated now and still expect to be nominated in the next polls at the expense of new faces,” she said.

Out of 40 wards in Migori county only Meressa Tingo is the only elected woman from Ikerege ward in Kuria West constituency.

She was speaking on Friday at Migori Primary School where she launched a Sh8.2million “Kuku ni Pesa’ project by Migori first lady Hellen Obado.

Ida also urged all women who are nominated to pick a project that will help empower women in their area.

Her calls has thrown cold water to most nominated women MCAs in Migori who are still waiting for second nominations instead of launching their own campaigns.

“Nomination was to make women stronger, you are now strong enough to vie in polls,” she said.
