The stand off between health workers and Migori county government has entered a second day today as patients feel the brunt of stalled services.
At Migori County Referral hospital, the biggest hospital in the county, patient left in droves while some got discharged as a meeting chaired by Governor Okoth Obado fell through.
Obado and the two unions representing the medics: Kenya Medical Practioners, Pharmacist and Dentist Union (KMPDU) and Union of Kenya Civil Servant (UKCS) never materialized.
“We will continue with the strike until we get our dues,” a medic vowed.
But Obado through a press statement sent by his director of press Nicholas Anyuor insisted he offered a “very strong, focused, strategic and useful recommendation for the health workers” grievances.
He requested them to go back to work and give dialogue a chance.
Medics want promotions, better pay and working condition and lamented of harassment from county government workers.
All plans will only succeed when the people are healthy, the good health can only be achieved by complying to the annual work plan/strategic plan made by health workers and the stakeholders at large. our people need best services from highly qualified and experienced perssonel in this faculty. The last major recruitment were enrolled nurses and technicians(lowest levels-with the lowest payment of kshs 20000) while many institutions currently train only diploma and above and the certificate holders were given time to upgrade before a period of time. How are we going to retain these poorly paid health workers from going to other counties for better pay? will we have the consistency or patients-health workers link maintained? my Governor when you say you gave 10000000 to them and you have seen nothing done, have you instructed the officers responsible to be audited? we have the Public Service Board responsible for recruitment and promotion from job group to job group, didn’t they check the fake documents whether valid or fake? if not ,why? lastly I am very much infuriated by the way my governor whom i voted honestly says “pesano anyuolonegi” this is like cholela vomitus and as a scientist it should be analysed to get the triggering factor(obsession by power).it is a dirty language unexpected from the peoples servant paid by the peoples’ tax!
maternity fund from the national government is given as per the number of deliveries ,why is the money retained or delayed ? when an ambulance stays witheld by servicing company and other administrative vehicles roves in town ,are we going to reduce maternal deaths? where is our priority? remember you are what you speak.Bring back the spirit of work to our professionals for the best healthcare in my county MIGORI. MAY GOD GIVE U WISDOM TO LEAD US TO THE PEOPLES’ PREFERRED DESTINY.
