HEALTH STRIKE: Medics keep off, Obado pleads for dialogue as patients suffer

By MN Reporter

The stand off between health workers and Migori county government has entered a second day today as patients feel the brunt of stalled services.

At Migori County Referral hospital, the biggest hospital in the county, patient left in droves while some got discharged as a meeting chaired by Governor Okoth Obado fell through.

Obado and the two unions representing the medics: Kenya Medical Practioners, Pharmacist and Dentist Union (KMPDU) and Union of Kenya Civil Servant (UKCS) never materialized.

“We will continue with the strike until we get our dues,” a medic vowed.

But Obado through a press statement sent by his director of press Nicholas Anyuor insisted he offered a “very strong, focused, strategic and useful recommendation for the health workers” grievances.

He requested them to go back to work and give dialogue a chance.
Medics want promotions, better pay and working condition and lamented of harassment from county government workers.
