Govt urged to end Kuria- Trans Mara 20,000 acre land dispute

Kuria residents living around disputed 20,000 acres land want the security agencies to stop using excessive force while attempting to bring order.

Led by Migori County Deputy Governor Nelson Mahanga the residents said the use of excess force by reported police is from Ntimaru and Transmara has left many injured and others losing their lives.

Mahanga now wants Inspector General of Police to bring sanity among police handling the issue of disputed land in Kuria-Transmara region.

Ntimaru East MCA Augustine Mwera now wants Government to give a priority to disputed land which residents claim their people have settled for the last hundred years.

The villages under disputed land include Masangora, Magamaga, Kohero, Gairoro, Kegonga and Kwikoho villages.

This comes after two families in Masongora and Bwitembe villages reported of police harassments while executing to force them out of part of the disputed land claimed to have been sold to a private developer.

The villagers alleged of two deaths and defilement out of the police of use of excessive force.

Ntimaru West Member of County Assembly Francis Magige Bhoke proposed to the National Government to sale to buy the disputed land settle the residents who are already living in the land and consider those who genuinely claim of the possession.

The community has over the years since independent fought legal battles over the piece of land that have also made them maimed, killed and others displaced.

They also blamed the Gairoro Sub Location Assistant Chief Mwita Joseph Chacha for alleged working with the police outside Migori County in order to subvert justice.
