Police officers engaged rowdy youths in running battles after a 5,000 liters fuel tank overturned at Banana estate in Migori town.

The driver was slightly injured in the accident that happened today morning.

Police had a tough time to control boda boda operators and residents who turned up in hundreds to collect free spilled fuel that was being transported from Migori town to Awendo.

The truck owner Abdi Salah said the driver was moving 5000 liters of fuel to Awendo but it veered off the road before it overturned at Banana Estate in Migori town.

“We managed to salvage few liters of the petrol in the tank. The police helped us to scare off the residents who wanted to siphon it from the tank,” he said.

Migori Police County Commander David Kirui said police’s prompt action helped avert an accident as they are still guarding the tanker.
