Four miners die in Masaba, Kuria West

A somber mood has engulfed Koses village in Masaba ward, Kuria West sub-county after four gold miners suffocated to death.

They died following a carbon monoxide poisoning as they re-entered the gold mine immediately after trying to pump out water using a diesel powered generator.

Area MCA Abedi Maroa said the death is due to rudimentary methods used for mininig.

“Gold mining is now the only economic activity in Kuria area after Alliance One Kenya, a tobacco firm, left the area.
