Speaking to Migori News, the Kenya National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers Sony Branch secretary Argwengs Adongo told the Star that Sony owes members a debt of at least Sh552million.

“We don’t know the exact amount, it should be higher because more sugarcane was taken from farmers recently,” Adongo said.

Already, close to 2,000 workers at the factors are planning industrial action over demands of Sh548million in salaries arrears from Sony with the last payment received last March.

“We have been ensuring operation run smoothly in Sony despite the hiccups, but unless the machines are maintained we are poised to loss out,” John Ogutu, the Kenya Union of Sugar Plantation and Allied Workers organising secretary said.
