A somber mood mood has engulfed Nyang’ao village in Rongo as bodies of five members of one family who were killed last week are set for burial today.

The five were burnt alive after their family was linked to using witchcraft against another villager.

They were accused of having used witchcraft against Joel Awuonda after he led to the conviction of their son only identified as Omondi.

Awuonda was then verbally threatened with ‘dire consequences’ for leading to the jailing of Omondi by his father Elijah Dwallo

Omondi was reportedly jailed after he slashed Awuonda with a panga in December last year.

Sources privy to the burial arrangements intimated that the bodies of the five will leave Homa-Bay hospital mortuary and head straightaway to the burial sites.

Security has also been beefed up ahead of the burial as tension is still high in the village.

Those who will be buried today include Maritha Amollo,80, Dwallo’s wife Helida Akinyi, 40, and their children. One in classes seven, three and another in nursery school.

Speaking to the press last week, Rongo Police boss Kibet Kirui said four family members escaped the ordeal with severe burns.
