Getong’anya residents in Kuria West’s Masaba ward celebrated when Deputy President William Ruto’s pledge to build a police station was realized last Thursday.

Ruto had pledged during his visit in the sub-county on November 21 last year to build the station to end high cases of cattle rustling and inter-clan wars between Abagumbe and Abakira.

The ground breaking ceremony for the station which is already gazzetted was initiated by Duncan Ndirangu, the Economic Adviser in Deputy President’s office, Masaba MCA Abedi Maroa and area OCPD Evans Wanyonyi.

“The venue of the station at Getong’anya has been used as a battle field by the two clans and an important corridor for cattle rustlers which we seek to end,” Ndirangu said.

Before residents had to rely on nearest police stations at Isebania or Kehancha which are 20 kilometers away and are grateful as they will also benefit from a borehole.

Wanyonyi gave an amnesty to all criminals possessing illegal guns in the area to submit them before a crackdown blaming them for high insecurity in the area.

Maroa said the launch said the move will help spur development in the area and open the region up.
