CORONAVIRUS: Three Rapogi nuns on self-quarantine after contact with Siaya positive priest

Three Catholic nuns from Rapogi are among over 60 people who have been traced for being in contact with priest in Siaya who tested positive for coronavirus.

Father Richard Onyango Oduor jetted in from Rome, Italy, where he is based. He has since been quarantined at Mbagathi hospital after testing positive of the virus.

On Tuesday, team of medics from Migori county government visited and screened the three nun based at St. Theresa’s Convent and ensured they undergo quarantine.

“We were shocked by the news as the three represented us at the Siaya funeral,” a nun said.

Uriri medical officer Mary Ayacko said the three nuns have not shown any symptoms and they are still in isolation as their condition is being monitored.

Among the people under self quarantine include “14 members of the priest’s immediate family, 20 members of the family of the nun whose mother’s funeral the priest presided over in Ambira village in Siaya County and 16 neighbours of the nun’s family,” according to a local daily.

Nyanza Regional Commissioner James Kianda said they are on high alert to ensure all priest contacts are traced.
