Migori County
Governor Zachary Obado has urged residents to stay at home while avoiding inter-county
movements as part of the efforts to contain Covid-19.
Governor Obado said residents should avoid crowded
places for instance market centers and strictly follow home orders.
The Governor regretted that traders who had been
restricted in Migori markets continue to attract huge crowds as situation he
said should be stopped.
Obado however want boda boda operators who do not
wear face masks together with their customers to be charged immediately. He
directed police in all road blocks to ensure non-compliant boda boda operators
are forced to follow the rules.
Reacting on why Matatu operators have not been
granted tax holiday like other traders, Obado said charges will continue
because they continue move people outside the county.
The County Chief said
movement restrictions at the border will succeed after reportedly Tanzanian
authorities closed their borders with Kenya.
He revealed that Migori County welcomes complete
lockdown in the country if that one means saving the lives of residents from
the dreaded Corona Virus.
Obado however, lauded Migori County Business
Community for their resources to aid the fight of Covid-19.
On his part however Migori County Commissioner
Joseph Rotich called the residents to use 988 toll free number to avail any
vital information which can help fight Covid-19.
Rotich warned that bar owners who violet Corona
Virus restrictions risk more punitive radical actions as stipulated in Kenyan
Laws.
They were speaking after Migori County Corona
Virus Surveillance Committee meeting at IFAD Hall in Migori town. The two who
are the Co-chairs of the committee insisted that they will ensure all the
requirements to combat Covid-19 in Migori County are followed.
