The Contractors and Suppliers in Migori County have suffered in silence for a very long time now. The current pending bills today stands close to 600M. The County Government has not shown any willingness to pay!

Early this month, the Governor went live on air in one of the Radio Stations promising to meet all the Contractors and Suppliers with a view to address our plight. That meeting has not taken place to date as this was just Public Relations exercise.

Look at what is happening in our Level 4 Hospital and other Sub-County Hospitals. No food for our patients; Reasons; the Suppliers who have been supplying food items for the last 2 years have not been paid!

We petitioned the County Assembly in October last year through the Clerk. To date, this petition has not been brought to the floor of the house, why?

Our MCAs chose to go to bed with the Executive two and a half years ago and have since refused or forgotten to wake up and report on duty even at this hour when they are just about to face the electorates in the ballot.

Most of the projects under the Ward Development Fund which falls directly under the County Assembly have not been paid; some of them done to completion for instance, the MCAs office block in Suna Central Ward whose certificate of completion was raised way back in July last year has not been paid!

This contractor took a bank loan to finance the said project, the bank has since advertised his property for sale when other Contractors who have good connections with the State House are paid just on a single phone call instruction!

These are the same Contractors who are referred as “Supper Contractors and Suppliers”. It is a very small group of Contractors. They are the ones who are being paid regularly at the expense of the common Contractor and Suppliers.

Some are paid up-front and end up not doing the project. We have the details to backup these claims!

We therefore demand that the County Government of Migori pays all the pending bills to Contractors and Suppliers within fourteen days from today, failure to which they get ready to face the most dreaded mass demonstrations by

Contractors and Suppliers in Migori town. We are not going to relent on this until the last Contractor is paid!

We also call upon the Civil Societies in Migori County, the National Chamber of Commerce — Migori Chapter and our sitting Members of Parliament to join us in addressing the plight of Contractors and Suppliers in this County.
