Brookside Dairy has partnered with Migori county government to supply milk to early childhood learning centres in the county. The milk firm’s Institutions and Events manager, Mary Murungi yesterday said the move is aimed at attracting and retaining pupils in schools.

Through the School Feeding Programme launched by the county government, pupils in early childhood education centres in Rongo, Awendo, Uriri, Kuria, Nyatike and Migori sub-counties will benefit.

“The programme would also ensure better school completion rates. We want to provide pupils with quality milk that meets both the nutritional and health benefits for growth,” she said. She said the importance of milk in diet, together with its contribution to healthy lifestyles, cannot be overemphasised.

“Over the years, the firm has undertaken a countrywide school milk programme which envisages the consumption of healthy dairy products, which are key for good health,”said Murungi.

Governor Okoth Obado launched the programme at Migori Primary School, with Brookside donating milk worth more than Sh130,000. The governor said the school feeding programme would benefit more than 78,000 pupils in the county.

“I am grateful to all our partners, who have come forward to help us implement this programme. We want our children to be healthy,” he said. The United States government, through USAid, also pledged to support the school feeding programme.
