Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko has downplayed concerns that he and other opposition governor have not joined ongoing maandamanos.

Ayacko said as a governor he is an office holder and can receive petitions, which is why he can never join demonstrators, but said other leaders in both national and county assemblies who represent people can do so.

“No government or office can demonstrate against another,” he said.

“Maandamano is provided for by constitution for people to peacefully and unarmed assemble and picket,” he added.

He said most demonstrations are safe but because of hard stance language from national government officers it often turn chaotic.
