61% of Kuria voters boycott Thursday vote despite famous State House visit, Ruto campaigns

Despite much hyped State House visit by 2,000 delegates from Kuria community by Jubilee Party, 61 per cent of voters boycotted the Thursday presidential re-run.

On October 4, the delegates led by Kuria West MP Mathias Robi and his Kuria East counterpart Marwa Kitayama led the delegates which opened roads for two high profile campaigns in the area with one led by Deputy President William Ruto.

In results announced on Friday morning, out of Kuria West 51,057 voters only 20,074 voters turnout with 60.6 per cent of voters staying at home.

In Kuria East constituency 35,158 voters only 13,500 voters cast their ballot with 61.6 per cent boycotting the exercise.

The numbers by Kenyatta from the region was 9,208 less than what he got on August 8 poll.

Both regions averaged only 61 per cent of polls.

In Kuria West results announced by RO Joseph Ng’eno, Uhuru got 19,587 votes with Raila Odinga getting only 214 votes with 128 spoilt voters .

In Kuria East results announced by RO Joel Omae, Uhuru got 13,156 votes followed by Raila who got 180 votes with 56 spoilt votes.

The number is dismal despite former Budalang’I MP Ababu Namwamba on October 14 led over a dozen Jubilee leaders in a high end campaign trail.

Ruto and another team visited the area only two days later.

on August 8 Kenyatta garnered 41,951 votes (65 per cent of the cast votes), which was 9,208 less than what he got on Thursday.

Odinga garnered 21,202 votes (34 per cent of the cast votes) in Kuria.

The two MPs in the region, Kitayama (Kuria East) and Mr. Robi(Kuria West), were both elected on Jubilee tickets.
