ANALYSIS: With Nyamita flirting with governor seat, Ndar throws hat in crowded Uriri MP race

By MN Reporter

The Uriri constituency seat in the forthcoming  general elections has attracted several politicians as the incumbent Mark Nyamita has strongly flirting with the governor seat.

Among the new entrants in the seat is a strong hint from youthful lawyer Francis Ndar was a front runner in the Migori speaker elections before being dissuaded by the Orange Democratic Movement party to step down in favour of former Migori MP Owino Likowa.

Several social media posts has been circulating with Ndar’s call for the election with the lawyer playing being diplomatic about the chances.

“The current office holder is Nyamita and even if he chooses to go for the governor seat or remain and defend his seat he will be met with wind of change in Uriri despite the direction of the flow,” he told Migori News.

In Uriri, Ndar has been among politicians who stood strongly with the ODM party against former governor Okoth Obado who hails from the constituency when he was flirting with party opponents.

In last general elections, Ndar helped finance the ODM party activities, agents, candidates and leaders in the constituency.

His entry sees a crowded race for Uriri constituency for a seat which Nyamita comfortably held twice in last elections on ODM ticket.

Uriri MP Mark Nyamita defended his seat against independent candidate Jared Kwaga in last polls when he led by 42,374 votes against 6,589, which was a comfortable win.

In his first stab, Nyamita floored immediate former MP John Kobado by over 20,000 votes, so much that in last elections Kobado chose not to vie and concentrated on campaigning for governor Ochillo Ayacko where he was rewarded with a county executive seat.

Kobado has been angling closely to recapture his seat and is working on ODM vacuum left by Nyamita who has chosen to work closely with President William Ruto’s men against party wishes.

Nyamita has been skipping ODM and leader Raila Odinga functions in Migori and nationally and has vocally been attacking the administration of Ayacko with campaigns across other sub-counties.

Ayacko’s men have angling to unseat Nyamita with Director of Administration Dominic Akugo and County Secretary Oscar Olima, who all hail from Uriri, being mooted to the seat.

But Nyamita’s close allies North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba and last speaker race candidate Martin Owiny who hails from Komenya area in the same ward angling to inherit the incumbent’s support base.
