Parents in Ikerege village has been urged to uphold girl child education in the area.

Migori County governor Zachary Okoth Obado said that nowadays girl child is as important as boys and should not be excluded in education.

‘Some parents used to educate boys only since they only valued boys, but that is nomore as ladies now compete well in education’, he said.

The County boss urged parents not to marry off their girl children at an early age for dowry as county government has plans to increase the number of chidren covered by governor’s scholarship come next yaer, a progarm initiated last year to help the needy children in the county.

‘My government will increase the number of beneficiaries of the govenor’s scholarship next year as opposed to the current three per ward’, he assured.

Obado urged locals to use the current el nino experienced in the area to plant as many trees as possible, citing various benefits of trees.

“Planting of trees should start from homes to schools. Lets utilize this el nino rains and plant as many trees as we can. County government will provide free seedlings to learning institutions in the bid to encourage afforestration’, he said.

Obado was talking at Ikerege Mixed Boarding Pri. School where he donated 150 iron sheets for the three clasrooms that were destroyed by winds in last few days. He also donated 500 seedlings to be planted in the school.
He was accompanied by the deputy governor, area MCA, leader of minority and other senior county officials

Parents from Ikerege village in Kuria West Sub-County have been urged to support girl child education.

While speaking at Ikerere Mixed Boarding Primary School where he issued 160 iron sheets to help renovate three classrooms that were blown off by strong Elnino winds, Migori County Governor Zachary Okoth Obado warned parents who still practise girl child neglect to discern such behaviours since they are practices that lack space in the contemporary world.

County boss also urged locals to do tree planting to increase county forest cover.
