Awendo MP Walter Owino will not be expunged by the Orange Democratic Movement over February 7 State House visit.

While Owino was among other legislators during the visit who were Kisumu senator Tom Ojienda, Lang’ata MP Felix ‘Jalang’o’ Odiwuor, Rongo MP Paul Abuor, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and Kisumu East MP Shakeel Shabir.

In a letter written to the party, Migori senator Eddy Oketch through his lawyers wanted the ODM legislators who went to State House to be expunged over the visit after he claimed Sh50m was paid to tarnish their names.

“In my letter I excluded Walter because after the State House visit he called and approached ODM and and our leader Raila Odinga and explained himself, but for the rest I have initiated their removal from ODM,” Oketch said.

He was speaking on Friday during a morning show at Mayienga FM.

He said Owino was in the meeting and explained himself adequately.

“The rest will have to be removed from the party and it is sad that my colleagues have resorted to personal attacks over the incident,” he said.

Sources said while State House visit organisers were banking on the last President visit in Kisumu, it was a shock that only a handful of legislators were invited to the house on the hill.

ODM sources said ahead of the meeting, Owino tried to meet and inform Raila over the State House meeting and only reached him afterwards.

“While the meeting at State House was basically meant for development and not political, what shocked the party was how some legislators chose to react negatively against ODM party and our leader Raila Odinga,” the source added.

Eddy has insisted the amount, Sh50m was given out during the State House meeting and will table the evidence during a disciplinary meeting by the party.

“We should not go personal on this State House issue, why did Nyamita (Uriri MP) tell Makau Mutua who is an advisor to ODM leader Raila Odinga to ensure I get married? Why drag innocent people on my personal life?,” he said.
