Migori ODM chairman Philip Makabong’o has been accused of openly supporting Awendo MP and a governor which has created tension of direct nominations ahead of 2017 polls.

Last Thursday during the botched visit by Cord leader Raila Odinga to meet county ODM delegates, aspirants and party loyalist accused Makabong’o for being used in an attempt to seek endorsement and direct nomination from the opposition leader.

An imminent division is being witnessed with a section of those complaining warning the party leader against a repeat of last General elections where incompetent candidates were handed nomination certificates, leaving out people’s choices.

Senator aspirants Oluoch Nyamola, Awendo MP aspirant George Maando and County party Secretary Josiah Olala have blamed Makabong’o of favouring aspirants openly.

“First the Awendo meeting was poorly planned. There was no enough seats, PAS and even a podium,” Maando said.
He added: “At the stadium, Raila was ushered into two small tents with a surging crowd of followers making it impossible for the leader to make an address,”

Rongo OCPD Kisaka Muganda said the meeting was a serious security risk for the opposition leader and local police were not involved in planning.

“We want Uriri MP John Kobado to continue serving as the county party chairman until a new chairman who is not partisan is found,” Nyamula said.

But Makabong’o defended himself insisting “If anyone is not satisfied with the way I am running the party, he should petition the party but not engage in unconstructive politicking.”
