Kodero Bara secondary school emerged the best in science congress in Nyanza region flooring giant schools like Kanga, Maseno and Rapogi in the area.
The school emerged the best in chemistry, physics, environment conservation and technology categories by offering practical solutions through their projects at an event held in Kasagam Secondary School.
Kodero Bara Principal Jim Agutu said they started a Science and Engineering department in the institution to encourage students to think out practical solutions towards ending global climate change and alleviate poverty.
In the Chemistry category, the school emerged top with their project to generate electricity from Citrus fruit and vegetables.
In Physics the students created an easy to use electrical inverter which can change electricity for easy use.
The students also won in technology category with simple technique to control intensity of security lights which changes with amount of light in the area to conserve energy.
“The best project was how to recycle plastic wasters to be used in creating simple culverts to help in drainage systems in homes to evade flooding,” Agutu said.
Kevin Odhiambo, the head of sciences in the school applauded students or putting the school in the map.
Other regional top schools included Asumbi girls, Ochenwa Boys, Kisumu Boys and Jalaram Academy in top five category.
