Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko’s administration has been faulted for the slow verification of pending bills.

Two and half years after being elected, Ayacko has publicly said former administration of Okoth Obado left him with huge pending bills.

The governor said he had concentrated on clearing bills which slowed his development agenda.

But contractors and suppliers through their union debunked the portion saying Migori still owe them over Sh1billion for work done.

A report recently released by Controller of Budget said 14 counties in the Lake Region Economic Bloc (Lreb) where Migori falls have cleared bills.

“We saw the report and it doesn’t reflect what is on the ground, contractors have not been paid,” Godness Oucho the Union Secretary General said.

He said what you as captured in the report was mischievous as counties only gave bills for 2022-2023 financial year when most governors took over office.

“We have pending bills dating back in 2017,” he said.

He said in Migori they were shocked when a Sh600m was quoted while over Sh500million to we left out.

“We are suffering, we have lost lives and property because of failure to pay pending bills for services we offered,” he said.

He called on Ayacko to fast track verification process and pay up.

“We support verification and we have done so to controller of budget and auditor general independently. We just want to be paid,” he said.

He was speaking to the press in Migori town.
