An activist based at Masaba, Kuria West sub-county has embarked on a walk from Migori to Nairobi to raise awareness on cervical cancer.

The walk by Thomas Chacha of Smile Woman seeks to raise Sh17million to buy ten cryotheraphy machines for screening patients.

They started on 25 September and plan to reach Nairobi on October 10 to help raise screening and treatment machines in Migori and Homa Bay counties which lack them.

“The two county governments are yet to buy any cancer screening machines. The only machine we have is at Kisii Level Five hospital in Kisii county, and it often faulty,” Chacha said.

He added: “The machine at Kisii always break down and we want to raise awareness on what patients are going through.”

The organisation has existed for the last four years and has screened 9,671 women out of which 286 were found with cervical cancer.

“The patients are faced with limited access to treatment,” he said from Kaplong earlier today.
