Migori County could see the end of drug theft from health facilities after Police arrested a man and his wife after they linked to drugs stolen from a health facility in Isebania, Kuria East Constituency.

The unnamed man and his wife were found to be in possession of government labeled carton of drugs meant for public hospitals.

Video clips in our possession also confirm that the chemist was stocked with the said drugs only gotten from government suppliers of drugs.

According to the county chief officer for health Dr. Dalmas Oyugi, the man and his wife were arrested after another suspect was arrested with drugs she claimed were being taken to the family’s chemist.

Earlier on Saturday of June 25, the police arrested a woman in Isebania after they found several drugs with government label staffed in her bag.

The police who were manning a road block at the border town were conducting their normal inspection when they bumped into the lady in a Toyota Probox before they apprehended her.

“The police then questioned her how she got access to the drugs when she revealed that she got them from Nyametaburo health centre, along the Kenya – Tanzania border,” Dr. Oyugi said.

The chief officer said that on questioning the worker attached to the Isebania health facility, she said that it is another nurse at the hospital had given her key to the drug store.

He added: “We went to the said chemist on Saturday but on seeing us, the woman took of through another door but we managed to arrest her alongside the husband this Monday and they are remanded at Isebania police station,” the chief officer said.

He added: “The worker who was arrested with the drugs and the nurse are however remanded at Migori police station and will be arraigned in court when the police conclude their investigations.”

Earlier this year, Migori governor Zachary Obado had accused some health workers of aiding in stealing of drugs from public hospitals to their private hospitals or smuggling them to Tanzania.
