Digital details of InuaJamii beneficiaries to prevent fraud

Elderly people and vulnerable benefitting from InuaJamii in Migori county will benefit from digital data to end fraud.

Apart from having their data digitalized they will also be offered with ATM cards by KCB bank.

Caroline Okong’o a beneficiary, they believe that collecting money from the ATM machines will be easier as compared to post offices where they have been collecting their money for four years now.

InuaJamii initiative was launched in this region in 2010 by the national government and is meant to support the elderly, orphans and the vulnerable in the society.

This initiative has helped several people and has helped to eradicate poverty in this region.

Rongo District Gender and Social Development Officer Margaret Omungala said most beneficiaries were finding it hard to follow the processes involved while collecting cash at the post office.

“We chose the alternative of offering money through ATM to ease transaction,” she said.

Omungala said that the exercise of giving ATM cards to the targeted group begun today in Migori county at large, where in Rongo Offices over 200 individuals had already collected their ATM cards.

She added that from today all the InuaJamii beneficiaries should pick their cash from KCB bank’ machines not post office.
