Nyatike MP Edick Anyanga needs the release of Sh485million set aside for El Nino preparedness as rains have started displacing people in his constituency.

He said even though Migori county government has set aside Sh120million of the amount, the national government is yet to foot the remainder.

He said since Friday over 150 households which translates to over 400 people have already been displaced at Nyora Primary School.

“The number will be higher as there will be more people at hard to reach places like Kabuto,” he said.
He said despite early warning, both national and Migori county government are yet to be prepared as locals face “risk of waterborne diseases.”

John Davis Mwita, the Migori Director of Disaster Management said they have begin rescue work despite lack of funds from national government.

On Saturday and Sunday officials visited affected areas and offered food and non-food stuff to affected families.

“We have a rescue center at Nyora Primary School, we will establish another one at Kabuto later today,” Mwita said.

Area North Kadem MCA Boaz Okoth said national government should move with speed and release the fund and not wait until people are dead.
