It took death of one person and several being injured to have Rongo MP Paul Abuor to skip a funeral of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and a neighbour on Friday.

Abuor earlier insisted he was set to attend the funeral of Philip Makabong’o, Migori ODM chairman at Rongo University grounds which is in his neghbourhod.

“From Rongo we had one person who was referred and died at the hospital while receiving treatment,” Ian Omuom, the Migori Referral Hospital medical superintendent.

On Thursday as funeral procession left a mortuary in Rongo town to Rakwaro Catholic (where both Abuor and Makabong’o attend) turned chaotic as youths started attacking the legislator’s vehicle insisting he should not take part.

They said Abuor will never attend a function graced by ODM leader Raila Odinga after he rebelled against the party and the leader to work with President William Ruto.

In the skirmishes, at least four people allied to the MP were critically injured and rushed to Rongo sub-county hospital.

The deceased succumbed as he was referred to Migori Referral Hospital for treatment.

On Friday there was fresh tension when Abuor was to arrive at the venue in the morning forcing police and his ordelies to intevene.

Until noon on Friday, the legislator was not back at the function.
