Football stakeholders in Nyatike want playing grounds in the constituency improved to help improve the sport.

The stakeholders decried the poor state of football pitchtes in the constituency and called on those in charge to take responsibility.

Speaking at Sori sports ground during the closure of the 8-day Karungu Annual Tournament, the organizers of the event led by  business-man and 2022 Nyatike parliamentary hopeful Peter Achar Nyajure called on Migori County government and the Nyatike CDF office to move with speed and rehabilitate at least one sport ground  in every ward to help support sporting activities in Nyatike. 

“Our people love sporting activities. Besides, tournaments unite and promote harmonious leaving among people. And to effect this a good sport ground is a prerequisite requirement,” said Nyanjure.

He added, “Now look at the kind of football pitch we’ve used to host this tournament. It is thick dust everywhere. No no no, something must be done urgently to save the face of sport in Nyatike,” he lamented. 

In attendance were Vice-chairman Gor Mahia Football Club John Dache Pesa and Migori speaker Boaz Okoth.

The condemnation comes at a time eye brows have been raised on how Members of parliament manage part of CDF allocation meant to support sports within their respective constituencies, which according to many do not reciprocate.

The County’s department of sport has equally been blamed of empty and amorphous promises to rehabilitate football pitches in Migori County raising questions on how the yearly allocations for the department over the same have been utilized.
