Awendo man who defiled brother’s daughter jailed for 20 years

A middle age man has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after being charged of defiling a 15 year old girl in Kanyasrega village in north Sakwa location Awendo Sub County Migori.

While giving his judgment Rongo Principal Magistrate court Judge Raymond K.Langat said that the accused person Johnson Omollo Sodo did the heinous crime on on the 20th July 2018 in North Sakwa.

The accused was the guardian of the minor who he intentionally and unlawfully, contrary to section 8(1)(2) of the sexual offences act No.3 of 2006 dragged her into a nearby bush and defiled her severally.

In the alternative count, the accused person was charged with the offence of committing indecent act with a child contrary to section 11(1) of the sexual offences act especially to the minor who was epileptic.

He said having he carefully considered all the evidence in record and was guided  by the relevant principles of law.

The court also said it was satisfied that the prosecution has proven its case in the principal count beyond reasonable doub.

He said that it would be a lesson to the rest of the people coming from the areas of Awendo and Rongo where cases of defilement have been on the increase.

The accused person has however been given 14 day to appeal in case they are not satisfied with the ruling of the court
