A nurse in Kehancha town closed himself in his house and set himself ablaze after his wife rejected an affair with his mpango wa kando.

Police in Kehancha in Kuria West are investigating the incident after Joseph Ghati, 26, worked as a nurse at one of the clinics in the town.

Witnesses said he came home early in the morning after a night duty and locked himself inside the house before setting himself ablaze.

“When he came he sent for house key from his wife from a family chemist. We only saw smoke from the house. He locked himself in the house,” a neighbor said.

Neighbors who broke the door later found him dead.

Anthony Keboye Mwita, the father of the deceased, said the couple had matrimonial issues after the wife realized the man was having an illicit relationship with another woman in the town.

“My daughter-in-law had reported to us that they had issues as her husband had a relationship with another woman in town. We summoned him to come and sort out the issue but he declined. We suspect his death could be related to the issue,” said Mwita.
