Ruto killing devolution by dropping ministry in his cabinet line-up- Ayacko

By MN Reporter

Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko has faulted president William Ruto for dropping the devolution ministry when he announced his cabinet a fortnight ago.

He said the move will hinder success of devolution which was the cornerstone of the 2010 constitution, which will taint development in counties and cohesion between national and county governments.

erred while naming his cabinet when he dropped devolution ministry.

Ayacko said for devolution to be successful, Ruto was to maintain own ministry for the department.

“We know both devolved and national government have to work together, but for it to be seamless we need an entire ministry dedicated for devolution, Ruto has dropped the ball with devolved units,” Ayacko said.

He said county government may need services across several ministries which will make it harder for governors to work seamlessly with national government.

“Before we had a one stop area to tackle issues on health, finance, security, transport and agriculture which won’t be the case,” he said.

He said senators, MCAs and activists should work together with ensure the devolution ministry is re-enacted.

He was speaking on Tuesday at Migori County Assembly during a county address, his first since elected on August 9.
