A group of 10-15 teenagers are still gathering in Migori townsdespite dangers of spreading coronavirus and has thrown social distancing out the window.

Despite the risks and dangers of young people congregating in large groups for both themselves and for others in their communities, groups of teenagers are continuing to gather together around Migori open defiance of social distancing guidelines.

Migori communities have been left shocked and disappointed by the actions of a small minority of youngsters who are openly flouting measures put in place to keep everyone safe.

Led by Millicent Akinyi, the traders were astonished how minors are mingling in Migori town and freely selling carriers without minding about the public health risks such meetings pose.
Beatrice Atieno said the minors were marching up the town without a care in the world and social distancing was never a concern.

Fidel Ochieng, another trader said it is really starting to make frighten him and a a disappointment as the behaviour of an irresponsible minority of people quickly turns to anger.

Olima Pius, also wondered whether their parents even knew or cared about the potential damage they could do as others said there was no excuse for their reckless behaviours.

While the number of people gathered is less than the government restrictions for social gatherings in open places, health officials and public health experts have said that social distancing is crucial at all times to halt the spread of the virus as much as possible.

The concerns were also raised by presiding PEFA churches bishop John Okinda saying he is nowhere near satisfied that people are taking social distancing recommendations seriously.

Okinda said it is not good seeing gangs of teens getting together despite parents taking initiatives to stay with their families at home teaching them how to pray.
