Government should work with private sectors to help in tackling unemployment in the country.

Japheth Ngetich, the general manager of Almasi Beverages which partners with Coca-Cola bottlers, said government risks increasing the already ballooning wage bill if they directly tackle unemployment.

‘The unemployment in the country stands at over 40 per cent, and private sector is best placed to tackle the menace,‘ Ngetich said.

He was speaking at Kababu Technical Institute in Suna West Sub County during the launch of a programme known as ‘Kuza Kazi’ programme that is  aimed at providing various youths with Coca-Cola kits and fridges.

The programme will target over 10,000 job opportunities every year through enhancing their livelihoods.

In Migori, 52 youths through the Migori youth Bunge Sacco benefited from the project.

‘With these we expect youths to take up distribution of our products and open up markets in places we have not reached,’ he said.

He said that through partnership with various companies and the KUZA KAZI programme they are now looking forward to empower the youths through job creation in realization of the country’s economic objectives.

His sentiments were also echoed by Joyce Wafula the CEO Kenya Youth Employment and Skills programme who challenged youths to come out and join Saccos or form viable groups if they want to be empowered economically.
