“This issue has taken a new dimension and now the governor is using his cronies to issue threats to me. I have reported the matter to the DCI and I hope action will be taken,” said Kitayama.

He said some threats were sent on text and his wife, who works in Migori County government as the Sub County Administrator for Kuria East.

”My wife has been dragged into this and she is now being targeted at the county government for allegedly being responsible for the heckling of the governor in Kuria East. Unknown people have been going to her office several times to eject her,” Kitayama said.

The two have received threats from Obado’s cronies, popularly known as Sangwenya who are allegedly are used to fight off the governor’s critics.

On Wednesday, a video of one of the cronies, George Olumwa, went viral on social media.

In the self recorded video, Olumwa issued callous words on the legislator vowing to “deal with him once and for all” for “attacking the governor”

Olumwa, who in the video claimed to speak for governor Obado, asked the MP to take a cue from the other governor Obado’s critics who were “silenced” by the ‘Sangwenya’ gang.

Nicholas Anyuor, Governor Obado’s press director, denied claims that the governor is using his cronies to threaten the MP.

“There is no one who speaks on behalf of the governor apart from the county government officials mandated to do so. People like Olumwa are supporters of Governor Obado who purport to speak for him but that is not the case. Whatever he says is his personal view. He does not speak for the governor,” said Anyuor.

He added: “The governor has no issues with MP Kitayama or his wife. Let people not peddle lies for their own interests.”
